At the 2006 Virginia Scholastic Chess Championship in Roanoke, Virginia on March 11-12, primary school chess teams from across Virginia competed for top honors.  At the conclusion, the strong chess team from Springfield Park Elementary School emerged victorious to take home the 1st place trophy.  Their top four players combined to score 21.5 points, winning the title by by 1.5 points over the 2nd place team.

In addition, all four team members finished in the top ten and took home individual trophies.  Abishek Penumala won 2nd place with 6.0 points.  Isaac Steincamp finished in 6th place with 5.5 points.  Rudraksh Roy finished in 9th place with 5.0 points and David Clower finished in 10th place with 5.0 points.
